My great grandfather lived in torpet at visnums, varmland, sweden. His name was Carl Peter Carlson or Westman. His wife was Charlotta Maria Andersdotter, born March 6, 1840 in Sodra Rada. My grandfather August Carlson came to america at the age of 12 with relatives. He was born in Visnum, Sweden May 28, 1876 and died in Minnesota in 1951.
Another generation back was Soldat Par Mort Westmanass of Sodra Rada born in 1776. His son Anders Parson was also listed as Soldat. When I checked the Swedish census anno 1890, I found that 865 men were listed as Soldat. It is all very confusing to me. Was this a center of army activity? Were my ancestors full time military? Charlotta Maria Andersdotter was listed in the 1890 census as a widow. There is no reference to her deceased husband. How can I find more about him and his life?
